Circle of Children

Circle of Children
It is a small world! And that means YOU!

Classroom Climate

My classroom will be a safe and secure one for all my students. Regardless of the culture or the language they speak, my classroom will be an embodiment of the cultures represented. Each country will be celebrated by having posters of the countries hanging around the room. Homemade posters will greet the students in their own language.
The library of the classroom will have English, Spanish, and other languages that my students speak. In addition, there will be dictionaries and thesaurus in the students' languages.

Happy Summer!

How many of you have ever been to Walt Disney World? I'm sure probably 99% of you are raising your hand. It's one of the attractions in my hometown, Orlando that most tourists can't wait to go and visit. One of the rides kids love to ride is "It's a Small World". If you haven't had the pleasure of riding it, it's a water ride that introduces different children from different countries. Each child is dressed in his/her traditional attire with their country in the background. In the background, a catchy tune plays throughout the ride. When the ride is over the tune keeps replaying in your mind. If your kids were like my kids,we rode that ride at least 3 times. By the third time I couldn't shake the song. Even now, years later, I still can sing that song word for word.

That song is the theme of my teaching blog. I think it appropriately represents what today's classrooms look like-- a smorgasborg of cultures, learning from each other. It's no longer one culture dominating the others. Children of every race and nationality learn together for a better future. While this is so important, one thing is also true and constant- writing is universal regardless of the child's background. Writing is universal and should be taught to every child in school. Hopefully this blog will help my fellow writing teachers with educating our children.

Future blogs will be dedicated to writing differentiated instruction and strategies. Tips that will make an impact learners.
